What Is IPL for Hyperpigmentation?
At Lush MedSpa, our recommended treatment for pigmentation issues or improvement is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). This process is a cosmetic skin treatment used to reduce signs of aging, reduce scarring, improve vein appearance, minimize diffuse redness and to lighten dark spots or sun damage. IPL is similar to laser therapy, however, due to the fact that IPL delivers multiple wavelengths, this procedure can target multiple concerns in a single treatment. As the name implies, IPL involves the use of highly focused light directed at pigment cells to destroy unwanted pigmentation. This procedure can be performed anywhere on the body but consultation is required to ascertain effectiveness based on the client’s skin tone, lifestyle, medical conditions and other individual factors.

What To Expect During My
IPL Treatment?
Your skin will be cleansed to thoroughly remove makeup and treatment creams. Cool gel will be applied to the skin to protect the epidermis from excess heat. Your skin care technician will supply you with eye wear protection. Your technician will perform a series of test spots and make adjustments according to skin tone, color pigment being treated, and skin response. Once proper treatment settings are determined, your technician will begin treatment to the area. The sensation is often described as a tiny rubber-band pop which occurs simultaneously with a bright burst of light. The IPL device includes a chilled surface to ensure client comfort during the treatment. IPL is a relatively quick procedure depending on the size of area being treated, the area of the body and the intensity of the issue being addressed. Generally the light therapy portion of the treatment will be completed in 20-30 minutes. Soothing creams and appropriate sun protection will be applied once your treatment is complete.
